Can I visit?
Staff and students are automatically members of the library, please remember your ID card to access our libraries.
Other library memberships are available. In advance of a visit in person, please complete the appropriate online application form
Family members of University of Dundee students and staff; and members of the public who have a valid reason to use our Main Library can also apply for a limited reference access pass in advance of a visit in person.
You will receive a further email if additional information or subscription payment is required to process your application,
Note: not all membership categories convey borrowing rights. Use of IT or print facilities are restricted to current University of Dundee students and staff only.
Main Library
The Main Library has an access control system with four security gates regulating both entry and exit. Everyone visiting the building is required to scan a current membership or ID card for access.
Staff and students from the University of Dundee should open the gates using their UoD ID card or barcode tile generated on the University of Dundee app.
Other members of the Library should open the gates using the barcode on their LLC membership card.
Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design Library
The Matthew Building has an access control system.
Staff and students from the University of Dundee should call at DJCAD Reception (Monday - Friday 9.00am - 4.45pm) to have their UoD ID card activated for access.
Other members of the Library should produce their LLC membership card at DJCAD Reception to be admitted.
Robertson Trust Medical Library and Learning Centre
24 hour access to the Medical Library is regulated by an access control system and is only available to staff and students from the University of Dundee, and to NHS Tayside members of the Library. To have your NHS Tayside ID/ UoD ID card enabled, please contact the Medical Library with details of the proximity code from the reverse of your card and allow 2 working days (Monday - Friday) for the application to be processed.
Kirkcaldy Campus Library
To access the library after 5.00pm Tuesday – Thursday, staff and students from the University of Dundee should ring the doorbell at the main entrance door and show their UoD ID card to be admitted. Other members of the Library should show their LLC membership card and another form of photographic ID.

Can I join?
The table below details membership categories, links to our application forms, proof of identity and status required, and whether any payment must be made if you want to join the library. For other categories of membership see the Library regulations.
Applications
Subscription; Reciprocal and NHS Membership applications are processed Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00, and 12:00 - 17:00 Saturday and Sunday during Semester opening hours. During vacation periods (excluding the Christmas and New Year period when an alternative process is in place) membership applications will be processed Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00. You will receive a further email if additional information or subscription payment is required.
Reference Access applications for Family members and Members of the public are processed Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00 throughout the year, excluding the Christmas and New Year period.
Once processed, your membership will be active the next day and a card will be ready for collection. Please bring proof of identity to collect your card. Alternatively, your membership card can be posted out to your home address.

Walk-in Access to electronic resources
Some publishers allow ‘walk-in’ access electronic resources on the condition that the material is used only for private study and research. Our libraries at the University of Dundee each have one designated ‘Walk-in’ PC offering access to a range of e-journal, e-books and databases of which publishers allow access, and these can be used by any registered member of the library. Please note that the service offered is read only - there are no options to print, save or email content. The list of resources available are included on LibGuide website.
Subscription memberships
Subscription memberships are valid for up to 1 year and can be renewed on payment of the annual fee each year. Borrowing allowances vary and members will not have use of IT or print facilities. Walk in access to a limited set of electronic resources is available when visiting our libraries only. The public network TheCloud by Sky is available in our libraries if you wish to bring your own device.
Reciprocal memberships
Staff and students from other universities in the UK and Ireland (including Abertay and St Andrews) can become members of the Library via Sconul Access. Please apply to your Home Institution in the first instance via SCONUL Access and once you have received your authorisation email, apply to the University of Dundee using the membership application form below.
SCONUL access memberships are valid for up to 3 years. Borrowing allowances vary and members will not have use of IT or print facilities. Walk in access to a limited set of electronic resources is available when visiting our libraries only. If you are bringing your own device, you may be able to use Eduroam wifi using your home institution’s credentials. Otherwise, you can connect to TheCloud wifi.
NHS staff
Staff at NHS Fife Health & Social Care, NHS Fife Acute and NHS Tayside may join the library free of charge. Memberships are valid for 1 year. Borrowing allowances vary and members will not have use of IT or print facilities. Walk in access to a limited set of electronic resources is available when visiting our libraries only. If you are bringing your own device, you may be able to use Eduroam wifi using your home institution’s credentials. Otherwise, you can connect to TheCloud wifi.
Family members
Family members of University of Dundee students and staff can apply for a reference visitors pass to the Main Library only. Access will vary in length. Once approved, a reference pass providing access to the library will be available at the Main Library Reception Desk. Proof of ID will be required to be shown to collect the pass. Reference Access only members will not have use of IT or print facilities. Walk in access to a limited set of electronic resources is available when visiting our libraries only. The public network TheCloud by Sky is available in our libraries if you wish to bring your own device.

Members of the public can apply for a reference visitor pass to the Main Library only. Visitors should demonstrate a genuine need to use the Library for study or research. Access to the library will be limited in length. Once approved, a reference pass providing access to the library will be available at the Main Library Reception Desk. Proof of ID will be required to be shown to collect the pass. Reference access only members will not have use of IT or print facilities. Walk in access to a limited set of electronic resources is available when visiting our libraries only.
