About Discovery
Established in 2010, Discovery is the digital repository of research, and related activities, undertaken at the University of Dundee.
The content held in Discovery is varied and ranges from traditional research outputs such as peer-reviewed articles and conference papers, books, chapters and post-graduate research theses to a growing number of records for artefacts, exhibitions, multimedia and software. Where possible we provide full-text access to a version of the research.
Additionally, Discovery is used to record public engagement activities, projects, awards and impacts.

The Discovery Research Portal provides a platform to:
- create a personal profile, showcasing your work, including your research, teaching and public engagement activities.
- increase the visibility of your work, including datasets, by making it more accessible.
- comply with funders' mandates requiring you to deposit your work in an open repository.
- comply with institutional policies and expectations around open research.
- allow research post-graduate students to archive the final version of their thesis.
Discovery is also used to support the University’s submission to REF, as well as for internal research management activities and reporting.
Research Services, based in the Library & Learning Centre, have responsibility for the management of publications data within Discovery, ensuring accuracy and completeness. We also provide advice and support on a broad range of issues, such as copyright, open access, research data management, theses archiving and how to make the most out of the Discovery Portal.
