SafeZone
Answer
SafeZone is a free app that is available to our staff and students. The app enables location-based communication, either from the University or from the user. It does so to alert when there is a specific incident or when someone needs help.
Situations where the app might be used to send alerts to our University community include:
- an emergency situation on campus
- adverse weather warnings
- building or road closures
- gas leaks or electricity failures
Situations where individuals might use the app to request help include:
- checking in when lone-working or working outside normal hours
- checking in when travelling on business (including international travel)
- when a first aider is required
- reporting an incident or safety concern on campus
Download and set up the app
- Download from Google Play or the App Store (search SafeZone)
- Enter your University of Dundee email address
- Log in with your University of Dundee credentials on the single sign on screen. This should pre-populate your email address, name and surname.
- Provide your mobile number (mandatory) and photo (optional) and tap Sign Up.
Once signed up, the app will ask you to review permissions. This will include allowing the app access to:
- your location
- your phone's Bluetooth functionality
- display notifications (so you can receive emergency alerts)
If you have any issues with installation, you can check the SafeZone troubleshooting pages.
How to use the SafeZone app
The app, which is monitored 24 hours a day by our Security team, enables you to request help in different ways depending on the situation.
